Citrine
Overview
Citrine is the yellow to orange-brown variety of quartz. Its name comes from the French citron, meaning lemon. Naturally colored citrine is uncommon. Most citrine on the market is amethyst or smoky quartz that has been heated to produce warm golden tones.
Its hardness of 7, low price and warm color make it a popular, practical choice for everyday jewelry.
Origins
Brazil is the leading source of citrine, and Bolivia and Madagascar also produce fine material.
